This qualification is for people who want to have a career in fashion design. It provides students with fundamental skills in fashion design with an emphasis on exploration and experimentation of the design process. Course structure To receive the Certificate IV in Design (Fashion Design) students must complete all core units and, if available, a range of additional units. Core Units Develop and extend critical and creative thinking skills Source and apply information on the history and theory of design Generate design solutions Interpret and respond to a design brief Contribute to health and safety of self and others Integrate colour theory and design processes Realise a creative project Career opportunities There are limited job outcomes at this level, though in areas such as graphic and digital design there may be some employment opportunities as a junior design assistant, working in graphic and digital design sectors. Articulation This qualification prepares people for learning at higher levels across a broad range of design disciplines. You can further your studies in design by applying for entry into Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses in design for live production, theatre and events, design and illustration skills, graphic design, interior design and decoration, product design, jewellery and object design, furniture design and/or visual merchandising. In particular, this qualification can lead to further study in the Diploma of Graphic Design (R10418) and the Diploma of Visual Arts (R10416).
