Course Description The processes of mineral extraction cover both science and engineering disciplines. In this course you’ll be able to select elective units across a range of study areas to broaden your career prospects in the minerals industry. You’ll gain practical experience and have the opportunity to work with industry partners and the community on real-world issues. You’ll learn from world-class researchers and industry experts to develop a broad range of professional, problem solving and personal skills that are in high demand with employers. If you’d like to complete a double major, Mineral Science can be combined with a range of options including Chemistry and Environmental Science, or you can create a double degree with other disciplines such as Law, Business and Management. Successful completion of the first year of Mineral Science will allow you to transfer to a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical & Metallurgical Engineering or Environmental Engineering You’ll have the opportunity for creative, independent research, by adding a one-year research project to your degree to gain Honours in Mineral Science, which you need to apply for the higher research degrees of Masters or PhD. When you graduate, you’ll be eligible for professional membership of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. You could pursue a career in mineral processing and metal extraction plants throughout Australia or work overseas in a range of roles including plant and project metallurgist, mill superintendent, operations manager, consultant or researcher.
