Explore your passion for environmental management, sustainability and species conservation in our Bachelor of Environmental Science degree.
Develop foundational scientific knowledge and gain hands-on skills in state-of-the-art facilities and on field trips in the living laboratory of World Heritage rainforests, reefs and rivers that surround our campuses.
The course includes core units combined with a specialisation in either coastal management, environmental resource management, fisheries and aquaculture management or waste management and resource recovery.
Graduates are not just knowledgeable and innovative, but industry-ready, with practical skills to manage the environment for the future.
Major areas of study
Coastal Management provides insights into processes that affect our use of the coastal zone. Students explore the impact of climate change, land use planning, protected area management, economics, and people in the coastal environment.
Environmental Resource Management focuses on conducting wildlife surveys, conserve fauna and flora and rehabilitating degraded land for future generations.
Fisheries and Aquaculture Management integrates fisheries biology, stock management, habitat protection, and aquaculture studies with environmental management. Students focus on developing strategies to maintain a sustainable fishery/ aquaculture enterprise. Some third year subjects for this major will be taught as intensive residential courses at the National Marine Science Centre in Coffs Harbour.
Waste Management and Resource Recovery develops multidisciplinary skills that will support their innovation in providing solutions for dealing with waste and waste minimisation, now and in the future.
Alternatively, students can choose to study an Integrated Project or undertake and internship.
Career opportunities
In public and private sectors, national park and protected area management, environmental protection, waste management, environmental impact assessment and monitoring, environmental education and interpretation, sustainable forestry, fisheries management, aquaculture, ecotourism, land/river/coast care programs; and in environmental science research.

Other English Language Requirements accepted: TOEFL (paper based) score of 570; Pearson test of English (PTE) academic general score of 64; Cambridge English: advanced (CAE) general score of 58; Occupational English test (OET) score of Grade B or above.

Applicants must have IELTS - 6.0 with no band less than 5.5; CPE - 52; CAE - 52; TOEFL PBT - 550 min 4.5 (TWE); TOEFL iBT- 60 with no less than 17 in writing & speaking, no less than 11 in reading & listening; PTE - 50 with no communicative score less than 46; ISPLR - 3+ or better in all 4 skills; CEFR - B2.
