Provides high quality studies in a wide range of science and technology disciplines. Students take introductory science and mathematics units, and select two majors relevant to their interests and aspirations. Four course-level electives allow flexibility, the capacity to undertake overseas study or to enroll in specific humanities units that contribute to eligibility for entry to a postgraduate teacher education course. Physics Major Provides students with a thorough background in fundamental and advanced physics with a strong emphasis on scientific instrumentation, measurement and analytical skills. The major is designed to meet industries' need for capable, dynamic and innovative graduates with well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills and a sound theoretical knowledge in physics. It gives students a hands-on and practical understanding of physics with laboratory-based programs and projects to encourage practical learning. Learning Outcomes Communicate results and interpretation of findings to scientists, managers and the wider community in both written and oral formats. Demonstrate broad and coherent knowledge of physics with depth in theoretical concepts and scientific instrumentation, measurement and analysis. Demonstrate initiative and judgement in the evaluation, selection and application of appropriate theories and experimental methodologies and techniques to address problems in physics. Demonstrate responsibility and accountability both within the scientific and broader community through ethical conduct and communication of research. Exercise critical thinking and judgement to identify and solve problems relevant to various applications of physics, including experimentation and analysis. Locate, critically review, analyze and synthesize information relevant to physics from a range of sources. Plan and execute an independent research project demonstrating a number of theoretical and/or laboratory based skills, and knowledge of occupational, health and safety issues.
