Public Relations
This major provides students with the practical expertise to make an effective contribution at any level. It equips students with critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills, and the ability to demonstrate initiative and make decisions. Public Relations uses various strategies to build and maintain relationships between organisations and the public. It is the key to effective communication in all sectors of business, government, academic and not-for-profit industries. Through a focus on technology, creativity and the arts as a foundation to sustainable, ethical and innovative business practice, graduates of this major will be well-placed for a progressive and fast-moving world.
Learning Outcomes
Adapt knowledge and skills in Public Relations to plan, stage, publicise and promote events through diverse settings.
Communicate information clearly in written or oral formats across diverse professional contexts, using a range of technologies and skills for varied audiences.
Critically analyse the relationships between communication management and other types of management activities in both public and private sectors.
Demonstrate broad and coherent knowledge in depth of the theories , ethics, principles and applications of Public Relations (PR).
Demonstrate initiative and judgement through the application of the theories and underlying principles in Public Relations to solve problems and make decisions.
Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own learning by re-examining PR theories, practices and process, including the auditing of effectiveness of communication strategies and recommend improvements.
Identify, review, analyse and synthesise public relations knowledge in response to industry requirements for the development of strategic plans.
Use critical thinking and judgement to solve problems and identify opportunities in Public Relations through risk and crisis management.

English Language Requirements accepted: Academic IELTS: An overall band score of 6.0, with no individual band less than 6.0; TOEFL: Minimum score of 550, including Test of Written English of 5 or better; TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 70, with no individual score less than 17; GCE O Levels: Grade C or better; PTE Academic: PTE Academic 52, with no scores less than 50 for courses with a current requirement; University of Cambridge [Cambridge English: Advanced]: Pre-2015: A score between 52 - 57 with no less than 'Borderline' in any element of the test. Post-2015: An overall score of 169, with no individual band less than 169; or a minimum TOEFL score of 550 including TWE of 5.
