专业简介
This course is based on acquiring the skills for a vocational profession. Qualified Conductor Status (QCS) is a worldwide recognised professional qualification and enables graduates to be employed as a conductor. In addition to QCS, successful graduates will receive an honours degree in Conductive Education. Alongside formal teaching in the philosophy and practice of conductive education, you will learn about neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy, strokes, Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis. To enhance this learning, all students complete weekly practice in conductive groups alongside the professional practitioners delivering the programmes (conductors). You will gain a broad range of experience with children and adults and are able to specialise in one age group from the middle of the second year of study. You will undertake practical work in groups of children or adults alongside experienced conductors. The course offers close links between theory and practice; practice runs alongside theoretical lectures. This is a unique course that provides the only opportunity in the UK to qualify as a professional conductor to work with children or adults with physical disabilities. You will gain experience of working as part of a team with a variety of people. In Year 1 students will gain the basic background understanding of the philosophy and methodology of Conductive Education. Students will learn about neurological motor disorders and begin to understand how this impact on the lives of children and adults. Alongside this theoretical knowledge students will begin the process of developing a range of professional skills all leading to teaching children or adults how to develop skills including movement, confidence, understanding and communication. In Year 2 students will start to merge theory and practical skills to a greater extent. At this time responsibility will be given to students to plan and lead programmes and sessions for either children or adults, under the supervision of a qualified conductor. Students will also start to learn about carrying out research and begin to investigate theoretical concepts in the light of practical experience and knowledge. The academic learning will extend their knowledge and understanding of motor disorders, conductive practice and the work of the professionals in the field. Theoretical concepts will be fused into practical application and students will undertake an independent price of research. By the end of the course students will have covered a range of academic subjects, all of which will enhance their ability to work as a professional conductor.
