This course provides students with an in-depth understanding of the exciting disciplines of politics and international relations and commerce. Students will learn about the workings of political institutions in countries around the world and explore the complex field of relations between nations. Topics in governance, public policy, public administration, national security, border control and commerce ensure that students receive a broad and current education in the range of issues which are covered under the label of politics and international relations and commerce. Course Objectives To provide an in-depth understanding of politics and international relations paying attention to both the historical and contemporary context. Provide an advanced understanding of the disciplinary perspectives of politics and international relations. Provide an understanding of political institutions and processes and how they operate including, at the national level, institutions and practices of politics, governance and policy, national security and border control; and at the international level, foreign policy, international institutions and the implications of globalisation and post-globalisation. Students will develop an understanding of and competence in a range of politics and international relations research methods and analytical techniques and the ability to apply these to research tasks. Students will develop generic skills and attributes that will equip students for success in professional life including critical thinking and professional ethics.
