Take the high path
If you’re a high achiever and passionate about a career as a future leader of nursing, then the Bachelor of Nursing Advanced is the perfect opportunity to have your passion and hard work recognised. This four-year (full-time) course incorporates an advanced honours year as part of the program and offers an additional year of both clinical practice and research over and above the standard Bachelor of Nursing course.
As part of your training, you will use the latest cutting-edge technology to simulate real-life situations and benefit from ground-breaking interactive and online practice methods. You will also undertake clinical placement experience across a broad range of healthcare service providers across all four years of your course, starting from your first semester onwards.
In your final year, you’ll also undertake a research project and thesis related to an area of clinical interest with the full support and encouragement of academic mentors.
This course can also be studied part-time and is fully accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). If you’d like to progress through to postgraduate studies, there are plenty of UC courses to choose from including the Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing, Master of Nursing, Master of Nursing (Research).
Study a Bachelor of Nursing Advanced at UC and you will:
acquire foundation knowledge and skills to provide safe, sensitive, effective and holistic nursing care to people of all ages and backgrounds
learn through a concept-based teaching approach integrating the science, ethics and aesthetics of contemporary nursing practice
understand and apply nursing management principles in a range of settings including primary healthcare and health promotion, long-term and residential care, mental health, acute and critical care, rural and remote services, and policy development
develop and broaden your knowledge, skills and attitude to work and prepare for real-world clinical practice
acquire in-depth knowledge of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan
participate in clinical laboratories, tutorials, lectures and seminars with face-to-face and online teaching
undertake professional practice to ensure readiness for employment as a beginning nurse clinician.
Work Integrated Learning
Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is intrinsic to any nursing program and the UC campus offers a uniquely immersive, simulated learning experience to prepare you for WIL.
As part of this preparation you will use cutting-edge technology, mock set-ups, and high-fidelity mannequins that breathe and react to different situations in real time to mimic real-life scenarios
This course also offers a unique four-day observational placement in the first semester which will allow you to accurately gauge the realities of a career as a registered nurse.
Over the next 4 years you’ll undertake approximately 1100 hours of practical work experience in clinical practice across a range of local and regional medical settings - including paediatric, aged care, medical and surgical, theatre, emergency department (ED) and intensive care unit (ICU).
Participating placement venues include Canberra Hospital, Calvary Public Hospital, Goulburn Base Hospital, and several additional private healthcare clinics in the ACT and NSW area. Faculty-led internships to countries such Tonga, or nursing study exchange opportunities to Canada can also be undertaken during this course which can count as credit towards your degree.

English language requirements: International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Academic - 6.0 overall with no band score below 5.5; Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): IBT - Overall score of 60 with no skill score below: R3: 10, L: 9, S: 16, W: 19; Pearson Test of English (PTE): Academic - 50 with no skill score below 42; Cambridge English Scale (CES) - 169 with no individual sub-score below 162; Occupational English Test (OET) - No grade lower than 'C' in any of the sub-tests.

Successful completion of Australian Year 12 qualification or equivalent.
There are specific entry requirements for gaining international qualifications.
If students are unable to meet the minimum requirements listed, they may be eligible to access the course via a linking pathway provided by UC College.
Other qualifications not listed here will also be considered on an individual case by case basis.
GPA average 5.0 if student is enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing.
IELTS Academic: 7.0 overall with no band below 7.0; TOEFL iBT: Overall score of 94 with: R: 25; L: 25; S: 23; W: 27; Pearson Test of Academic English: 65 with no skill score below 65; Cambridge English Scale: 185 with no sub-score below 185; Occupational English Test: No grade lowers than 'B' in any of the sub-tests.
