Course Description
This professionally accredited course adheres to a scientist-practitioner model that stresses a systematic problem-solving approach. Its objective is to prepare psychologists who are skilled in individual casework and can apply their skills and knowledge to prevention, research, development, and evaluation at the individual and system levels. This course includes coursework, practicum, and research components that will qualify students as clinical psychologists at Master’s degree level.
Candidates undertake at least three approved placements. The University has arrangements with a wide variety of service providers such as WA Department of Health, Department for Community Development, Department of Justice, Disability Services Commission, WA Police Service and other public and private services and facilities to provide practicum opportunities.
Candidates have opportunities to undertake placements an adult clinical facility and a child clinical facility.
This course is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) and is recognized by the Psychology Board of Australia and the College of Clinical Psychologists at the Australian Psychological Society (APS). Once the course is completed graduates can apply to the Psychology Board of Australia for registration as a psychologist and for membership of the APS. To obtain full endorsement by the Psychology Board of Australia as a Clinical Psychologist, graduates are required to complete one additional year of practice under supervision within a psychology internship.
Psychologists are emerging as highly employable professionals in contemporary health services given their strong grounding in effective interventions, solid assessment skills and their ability to devise and implement research. Clinical psychology remains the most popular specialization within psychology both in Australia and internationally. Employment growth for Clinical Psychologists is expected to be strong following recent government initiatives such as Medicare rebated services. On graduation from this course, students will be highly employable in a wide variety of areas, including private practice as a registered psychologist, and working in various public and private sector agencies in areas such as health, community development, justice, education, and disabilities.

Applicants must have completed a Bachelor degree (AQF level 7) or equivalent. English Language Requirements: Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS): overall 6.0 with no band below 6.0; Test of English as a Foreign Language - IBT (TOEFL IBT): 73 with no band less than 18; Test of English as a Foreign Language - Paper Based (TOEFL - Paper Based): 534 (Test of Written English not less than 4.5); Cambridge Advanced English prior 52 with no section less than Borderline; Cambridge Advanced English after 69 overall with no band below 169 ; Occupational English Test (OET): OET with a minimum of C in the four components.

Entry to this course is very competitive and requires a recognized and accredited Bachelor of Arts degree (or Bachelor of Science degree) with at least 2A Honours in Psychology or its equivalent (for example an average Distinction level in a Bachelor of Psychology or Postgraduate/Graduate Diplomas in Psychology). Students with overseas qualifications who are accepted into the course and who wish to seek registration in Australia after graduation should ensure that their undergraduate qualifications meet the requirements of the relevant psychology registration board for equivalence to a four-year Australian degree in Psychology.
English Language requirements: IELTS overall 6.0 with no band below 6.0; CAE - 169 overall with no band below 169; PTE - 50 with no band below 50; TOEFL IBT - 73 with no band less than 18; OET - OET with a minimum of C in the four components.
