Course Description This course is designed to provide overseas and Australian middle level to senior protected area managers with up-to-date skills and knowledge in effectively administering protected areas. Through practically oriented study, you will be provided with state-of-the-art information on managing human resources and complex organisations. You will also be able to build your expertise in monitoring, strategic assessment and system planning. This course is relevant to managers employed by public and private organisations managing lands and waters for biodiversity and other values. Employment opportunities exist in government park management agencies (e.g. Commonwealth Department of the Environment, WA Department of Parks and Wildlife or Parks Victoria), environmental non-government organisations (e.g. Pew Charitable Trusts) and private reserve managers (e.g. Bush Heritage Australia). The professional outcome is a Certificate in Protected Area Administration addressing key competency requirements identified internationally (by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA)) for protected area managers. Student visa holders must study full-time. Students commencing mid-year will need two semesters minimum enrolment to complete requirements.
