This course will allow you to gain the experience necessary for admission to the legal profession. Course Description The Graduate Certificate in Legal Practice will allow you to gain the experience necessary for admission to the legal profession. You will be placed within our Clinical Legal Practice run in collaboration with SCALES Community Legal Centre, and will gain experience in any or all of our practice areas such as human rights, family or generalist law. You will have the opportunity to undertake varied legal work under the supervision of our solicitors, including interviewing clients, legal research, formulating and giving advice as well as law reform and policy work. Clinical legal education is a teaching method that combines theoretical concepts and actual legal practice. You will be given the opportunity to exercise professional judgment while working on real cases, being responsible for all aspects of your client’s case under the supervision of a solicitor. Your experiences will then become the subject of critical review and reflection, teaching you how to better evaluate your own legal work and the legal work performed by others. Clinical teaching will help you to make law school the beginning, not the end, of a legal education, as it will assist you in developing models and techniques for systematic and self-conscious review of your experience. This course will enhance your qualifications and open opportunities to build a successful career in the legal profession.
