Prepares students to be able to make a positive contribution to enhancing the health of communities. Health science is the study of the physical, psychological, social, and environmental dimensions of health. Students graduate with practical and theoretical knowledge and skills in communication, teamwork, critical thinking, innovation, and cross-cultural and international awareness. They are highly sought after and can choose a range of interesting and dynamic career pathways. Students can choose to undertake two eight-unit majors, or a major and minor, in these disciplines: Addiction Studies, Environmental Management, Health Promotion, Nutrition, Occupational Safety and Health. Alternatively, students can undertake one 16-unit major in Nutrition Bioscience or Environmental Health. A minor in Youth Work is also available. Course structure Students are required to complete a Core unit set. This will be supported by a supplementary program comprising of: two 8-unit Majors; or an 8-unit Major, plus a 6-unit Minor and 2 Elective units; or a 16-unit specialised Major. Note: Majors and Minors are selected from the Bachelor of Health Science. Alternate options require approval of the Course Coordinator. Environmental Management Major Designed for students who want to develop a specialization in the area of environmental management, including sustainable management of natural areas and urban landscapes. Apply environmental, digital and managerial literacies to access, evaluate and synthesize relevant information from multiple sources. Communicate disciplinary knowledge and values in professional and public contexts. Demonstrate a global outlook with respect for environmental, cultural and economic diversity. Demonstrate autonomy, accountability and judgement for own learning and professional practice. Think creatively to anticipate environmental challenges and design approaches for their solution. Think critically to analyze and interpret complex environmental management problems and devise strategies for their solutions. Work collaboratively and demonstrate initiative to implement social, sustainable, and ethical values, including Indigenous cultural competence.
