The Master of Laws is suitable for law graduates who are looking to practice law, provide legal services or venture into academia. The course will arm you with an advanced capacity for legal reading and writing, and allow you to demonstrate an ability to define and develop a legal research topic and support an extended argument.
With this flexible degree, you can choose your path depending on your interests – fine-tune your qualifications by undertaking a Masters of Laws Dissertation, prepare a thesis based on your past employment experience or take electives that align with your professional aspirations. Whichever route you decide to take, you will graduate as a confident legal professional, ready to advance your career.
Study a Master Laws at UC and you will:
demonstrate an ability to define and develop a legal research topic in depth, support a sustained argument and follow a legal style guide
have the option of undertaking a Masters of Laws Dissertation, where you will be able to articulate an understanding of the historical dissemination of the law
state a thesis and build and support a sustained argument throughout a significant piece of legal scholarship

Work Integrated Learning

In addition to the normal University requirements for admission to a graduate course, applicants must also have completed the academic requirements of an undergraduate degree in Law and will normally have achieved a grade point average of 5.0 or higher.

Applicants must have a bachelor qualification, or equivalent, in a related field or Bachelor qualification, or equivalent, in an unrelated field and three years' work experience or Bachelor qualification, or equivalent, in an unrelated field and Graduate Certificate in Business or higher. English language requirements: International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6.0 with no band score below 6.0; Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): IBT - Overall score of 60 with no skill score below: R3: 16, L: 15, S: 18, W: 22; Pearson Test of English (PTE): Academic - 50 with no skill score below 50; Cambridge English Scale (CES) - 169 with no individual sub-score below 169; Occupational English Test (OET) - No grade lower than 'C' in any of the sub-tests.
