Gain the skills you need to achieve positive outcomes in the rewarding field of youth work When you complete the Diploma of Youth Work, you’ll have extensive knowledge about the social, behavioural, development and health needs of young people in the community. You’ll also have the ability to make important decisions about youth at risk, and provide case management and first aid for young people in need. You’ll have specialist skills in areas such as: needs assessment, service delivery, advocacy, effective communication, community education, networking, case work, workplace safety, first aid, empowerment, legal and ethical frameworks, cultural diversity, child protection, mental health, and group activities. This course prepares you for work in a demanding and ever-changing industry, which requires a high level of skill, knowledge and expertise. Experienced teachers, who are experts in the field, will guide you through the program, which involves workshops, online study and industry visits. This nationally recognised qualification will be highly valued by employers and may lead to job opportunities such as youth worker, residential care worker, youth justice officer, drug and alcohol worker or community care worker. The course can be completed full time in one year with a 140 hour work placement, if you have already successfully completed the Certificate IV in Youth Work or Mental Health/Alcohol and Other Drugs courses. Once complete, this qualification can provide a pathway to relevant Bachelor degree courses. You will be able to gain credit for your studies, which means you’ll complete your degree sooner.
