This program will prepare you for a leading role in the food industry. You'll gain food technology, nutrition and engineering skills in the key areas of product development and production systems. The program aims to produce graduates with skills and capabilities relevant to large-scale production of food. You’ll learn how to design the plant, the process and the product. The program allows you to complete two degrees in a reduced amount of time and increases your employment prospects. Multiple campuses The first half of the Food Technology and Nutrition program is conducted on the City campus and the second half on the Bundoora campus. The Chemical Engineering program is based at the City campus. Career As Victoria's largest manufacturing industry, food processing offers excellent employment opportunities. Graduates find jobs in large food processing companies such as Nestlé, Cadbury, Simplot, Heinz and Mondelez in research and development, marketing or quality assurance roles. Further study When you successfully complete the Bachelor of Science (Food Technology and Nutrition)/Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering) (Honours) and achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 and complete the prerequisite courses, you are guaranteed entry into the Master of Food Science and Technology with 1 semester of advanced standing (equivalent to 48 credit points). Pre-requisite courses include: CHEM1083 or CHEM1286 Food Chemistry ONPS2435 or ONPS2510 Rheology and Food Biophysics ONPS1113 or ONPS2496 Product Development OHTH2068 or OHTH2172 Nutrition, Health and Disease Alternatively, you may be eligible for entry into other RMIT postgraduate or Masters by Research or Doctoral (PhD) programs.
