In this program, you'll develop skills to design, validate, and evaluate electrical equipment and systems, as well as provide technical advice and sales. Electrical engineers design and maintain electrical systems to improve the production and distribution of energy to all levels of society. As we increasingly depend on electrical and electronic devices in modern society, electrical engineers are in high demand. Electrical engineers design and maintain electrical systems in markets and application areas ranging from aerospace, power utilities, mining, oil and gas, wind and solar food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, data centres, transport and logistics, and many others. You’ll gain skills and knowledge in electrical design, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, industrial data networking, and motor control. Following this program, you’ll be qualified to work in the electrical industry. Career As a graduate of this program you may become responsible for electrical and control support and administering and upgrading electrical facilities in small, medium or large-sized enterprises. You'll gain skills in the installation, maintenance and administration of electrical and automation infrastructure. These skills will be applicable to a wide range of business, manufacturing and operational occupations where application of knowledge in electrical technology underpins the business operations. Electives and program structure Year 1 You will study plant identification and ecology and learn skills related to site assessment and industry-specific communication skills. You will be introduced to cultural heritage and aspects of Indigenous land management with input from Aboriginal Elders and community organizations. You'll also learn how to conduct wildlife surveys and interpret the data using the appropriate format for the industry. Year 2 You'll study units related to revegetation and the monitoring and management of water and learn about pest management. You will also explore Indigenous and cultural heritage issues and how these relate to land management. These are taught in collaboration with Indigenous Elders and community members and include an extended field trip to western Victoria where you will have the opportunity to work alongside Indigenous land care workers. Pathway options You can gain entry to the Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology - Electrical from an RMIT Foundation Studies or a range of vocational study programs. Further study When you successfully complete the Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology - Electrical and achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0, you are guaranteed entry in the following programs and may receive three semesters of advanced standing (equivalent to 144 credit points): Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) (Honours) Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) (Honours) Alternatively, you may be eligible for entry into other RMIT undergraduate programs.
