The Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Laboratory Medicine) is a four-year program with a clinical placement providing you with work-ready skills and experience in diagnostic pathology. The program is aligned with both Australian Institute of Medical Science (AIMS) and IBMS accreditation. RMIT is the only Victorian university to offer all of the following majors including haematology, transfusions and transplantation science, anatomical pathology, medical microbiology and clinical biochemistry. You’ll have flexibility in choosing your major disciplines and will also complete a major clinical placement, providing you with work-ready skills and practical experience. In your final year, you’ll have the opportunity to study a discipline-focused laboratory medicine project to develop your research skills. Graduates are qualified as medical scientists and play a vital role in the healthcare system. Successful completion and the grades you achieve determine the amount of credit you will receive. If you achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 (out of 4.0) in the following programs, you will receive credit as follows: Associate Degree in Applied Science - you will receive 2 semesters of advanced standing (equivalent to 120 credit points) Diploma of Laboratory Technology (Biotechnology) - you will receive 2 semesters of advanced standing (equivalent to 96 credit points) Diploma of Laboratory Technology (Pathology Testing) - you will receive 2 semesters of advanced standing (equivalent to 96 credit points) If you achieve below the minimum GPA, you may still apply. You will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and credit is not guaranteed. Alternatively, you can gain entry from RMIT Foundation Studies or a range of vocational study programs. Further study When you successfully complete this program you may be eligible for entry to the Bachelor of Health and Biomedical Sciences (Honours). Alternatively, you may be eligible for entry into other RMIT honours or other postgraduate programs.
