This program prepares you for a career as a specialist physical education teacher. You will be qualified to teach in both primary and secondary schools. Coaching, health and fitness promotion and sport education for school and community-based groups might be just some of your responsibilities. You'll gain understanding of: the scientific basis for the effects of physical activity in health and human performance the professional role of physical educators the contribution educators make to schools and communities You'll also gain a second teaching method, which may include biology, health or maths. You'll be exposed to a broad study of exercise sciences (anatomy, physiology, exercise physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology, motor learning), sport and physical activity, and their application to the teaching of health, physical education and sport in schools, as well as coverage of key health issues. Over the past five years more than 95% of graduates seeking teacher employment have been successful within six months of graduating. Pathway options You can gain entry to the Bachelor of Applied Science (Health and Physical Education) from RMIT Foundation Studies or a range of vocational study programs. Further study When you successfully complete the Bachelor of Applied Science (Health and Physical Education) you may be eligible for entry to the Bachelor of Health and Biomedical Sciences (Honours). Alternatively, you may be eligible for entry to other RMIT Honours or Postgraduate programs.
