Careful analysis of underlying questions and critical examination of the sources of data are part of the art of statistics, and modelling the variability in data to calculate the reliability of answers is part of its science. With increasing use of technology, people with data handling skills and no fear of symbols have become highly sought after in the workplace. More and more professions, from the everyday to the exotic, depend on data and numerical reasoning. Careers Jobs might not always be advertised specifically for a statistician, but very often the small print under a research officer advertisement will mention statistics or data analysis as a prime requirement. With knowledge of statistics employment can be found in a remarkably wide variety of areas: Commerce (particularly finance and marketing) Environmental management Quality improvement Research science Social sciences Teaching Technology and industry Requirements The requirements for the Diploma in Arts endorsed in Statistics are: Pass 230.111 Tū Kupu: Writing and Inquiry 230.112 Tū Arohae: Critical Thinking Pass 75 credits in Statistics including one of 161.120 or 161.130 (or 161.100); 45 credits at 200- and/or 300 level, and 15 credits at any level from the Statistics schedule. The remaining 15 credits for the Diploma in Arts can be from Part II of the schedule for the Bachelor of Arts degree (including further courses from the endorsement subject) and/or courses offered in other undergraduate degrees.
