What is it Like?
Massey’s Bachelor of AgriCommerce (Rural Valuation) will help you build the skills you need to have a successful career in today’s rural property market. Whether it’s a dairy farm sale, estimation of orchard capital value, or getting a bank loan to purchase a new farm, almost every financial transaction involving land requires a valuation to support it.
You’ll learn about land-based systems and agribusiness and gain specialist valuation knowledge preparing you for exciting opportunities in the dynamic rural property industry.
Note: July start will take 3.5 years to complete
A relevant programme
Visiting a wide range of farm properties is an integral part of the programme. This is essential to the relevance of your study of farm management, investment and valuation. You’ll also learn the communication skills you’ll need to operate within the industry and to work effectively with future clients. We encourage you to strive for the highest levels of professionalism and ethics.
You will cover a wide range of topics specifically relevant to rural valuation such as property markets, resource management, property law and building technology.
Practical experience while you study
During your degree you will gain a huge amount of practical experience. This experience will include at least 26 weeks of paid employment undertaken in agriculture and related sectors. That will give you an advantage with potential employers.

Accreditations
The BAgriCom (Rural Valuation) is accredited by the Property Institute of New Zealand (PINZ) and the New Zealand Valuers Registration Board.
Careers
Massey University’s rural valuation major in the Bachelor of AgriCommerce provides the knowledge, skills and competencies to be a registered valuer, specifically in the rural context. But there are also other exciting career opportunities in the rural property sector. You can choose to specialise, or become a generalist. Examples include:
Private practice firms as a generalist rural valuer
A specialist valuer with expertise in a class of property e.g. viticulture, forestry, Maori land
Farm consultancy, property management planning
Rural banking
Insurance companies as a rural consultant
Real Estate firms as a rural agent
Potential careers from the rural valuation major include banking, consultancy, insurance companies, local and regional authorities, rural valuation practices.
Structure
At Massey a credit system is used for our degrees. To complete a Bachelor of AgriCommerce the following is required.
Total of 360 credits completed. That’s 24 courses of 15 credits each
Up to 165 credits (11 courses) may be completed at 100-level
At least 195 credits (13 courses) completed above first year. Of these 75 credits or more must be from 300-level courses
26 weeks of relevant practical work and two associated reports
This course is also offered by the School of Economics and Finance.

Applicants must have completed New Zealand secondary school qualification or other equivalent overseas qualification. English Language Requirements: IELTS score of 5.0 (no band less than 5.0). TOEFL iBT score of 61 overall (min 17 in Reading & Writing). PTE Academic score of 36 Overall (min 36 in communicative skills). Cambridge English score of 155.

Students must have successful completion of a qualification equivalent to the New Zealand Year 13 - NCEA Level 3 University Entrance. International students need to check the equivalency of their secondary school qualification by reviewing the Academic Admission Requirements by Country.
Students from a country where English is not the first language, must obtain a minimum English Language competency level.
IELTS score of 6.0 (no band less than 5.5)
TOEFL iBT score of 80 overall (min 19 in Writing)
PTE Academic score of 50 Overall (min 42 in communicative skills)
Cambridge English score of 169 overall and all bands 162 or better
