Led by an inspiring community of creative practitioners and theorists, this combined degree offers a unique opportunity to develop conceptual, creative and technical skills in the context of both music and media production. With 24-hour access to dedicated facilities, including recording and photographic studios, editing labs and our screening room, you’ll be able to develop your own creative practice in areas such as photography, film-making and sound-production. You’ll also develop a clear conceptual grasp of the relationship between music and the media, whilst gaining an in-depth understanding of the theory and history of music, sound and popular culture. Our Media modules combine theory and practice, equipping you with the skills to analyse a variety of media texts, enable you to explore your own creativity in producing cultural artefacts and provide opportunities to enter work placements through our links to the creative and media industries.Our Music Technology modules encourage you to work at the frontiers of the creative application of technology in composition, music production, sound design, screen music, audio-visuals and music software. You will study many different styles and genres, inventing, capturing, recording, mixing and manipulating audio/visual content using advanced digital media.The degree will provide you with vital technical and creative skills for working in the contemporary creative industries, from software development to film editing. In addition, the degree develops core transferable skills that are essential to the cultural industries and beyond, including collaborative work, analytical skills and aesthetic understanding.
