Our combined degree programme in Mathematics and Music offers you the opportunity to study in two distinctive disciplines, but also to benefit from the synergies between these two ‘high cognition’ subjects. Music focuses on the creation, performance, meaning and uses of music from a diversity of styles, periods and traditions. Alongside opportunities to perform and compose your own music, and to do a module-based work placement in the local community, you will investigate topics in music history, aesthetics, and social impact. You can also access modules from the Music Technology programme to create a programme reflecting your passions. Music at Keele is a hub of world-class musicologists, composers and performers, and the musical life on campus is rich and varied. As a student on this degree programme you develop a wide range of transferable and subject-specific skills that are highly valued by employers. Mathematics helps you to take novel approaches to problem-solving and critical interpretation which opens an extremely wide range of career paths in fields such as finance, data analytics, teaching, engineering, medical statistics and management consultancy.Graduates in Music follow careers in media production, finance and banking, broadcasting, marketing and consultancy. You could go on to work as a teacher, performer, composer, music therapist, community musician or sound technician, or in game design, film, radio and television, recording or arts administration.
