At Keele, studying a combined honours degree will include some modules from both of the single honours degrees. In this case, your programme will be made up of a combination of modules from both Education and Human Biology. Education at Keele is distinctive because of its strong focus on contemporary issues in education and policy making. Studying education means consideringits relationship to the economy, its historical evolution, its impact on people’s life chances and identities, how education is organised, and how learners learn. Keele goes even further by placing education in a very contemporary and even future focused context, exploring the ways in which the world of education is changing and looking at education from philosophical, historical, psychological, cultural and sociological perspectives. This course examines changing ideas about childhood, learning, schooling and education, and factors such as poverty, social policies and digital technologies which impact on these.Our undergraduate Education programme is not a teacher-training course per se, but a study of education itself. However, the course does open up a range of opportunities in settings from pre-school to adult learning, as well as in a variety of other contexts. On graduating you might work in the social services, in health, or in local or central government. The course also sets you up well for further professional study to qualify in areas such as teaching, social work or the legal profession. Our course is ideal if you’re interested in biology but are looking for a particular focus on the human body and how we’ve adapted to our environment. This course provides a broad understanding of the physiology of the body’s major systems as well as human health and disease. You might explore the impact of nutrition and the environment on health, how humans in turn impact on the environment, and human evolution. Keele’s multidisciplinary approach puts human biology in context, so you’ll have input from experts ranging from clinicians to nutritionists, physiotherapists, geographers and conservation biologists. There are opportunities for studying abroad and for work experience; you could even add in a year’s industrial placement to create a four year degree.Graduates from this programme have opportunities in a wide range of fields, with career paths in science, health, industry or the media. You might become a nutritionist, dietitian, health promotion specialist, clinical molecular geneticist, counsellor, adult nurse, sports therapist, or technical author.
