Why study Anthropology?
Anthropology is the study of other cultures and our own to find out what makes humans tick. It helps us understand and appreciate cultural differences and similarities to better meet the growing challenges of our global village.
Through fieldwork and research, anthropology delves into a diverse range of subjects including popular culture, symbols and society, kinship, childhood and youth, body and mind, humans and animals, detention and containment, food and drink, health, development and the environment. You will explore culture and identity, and gain theoretical and practical skills to take into the workplace and engage with the community in a variety of roles.
Where can Anthropology take me?
Anthropology takes you across Australia and to the far-flung corners of the globe. It prepares you for a career in a range of fields including native title, social policy, community development, research, conservation and cultural resource management.
Anthropology graduates work as curators, conservation assistants, creative arts co-ordinators, information officers, fine arts retailers, visual merchandisers, commercial artists, art gallery administrators and gallery/museum directors.
Further study options
If you're an undergraduate with a strong academic record, Honours in Anthropology awaits. Your Honours year will give you the chance to combine coursework and research in a specialized area of study.
Complete the Honours program with high grades to qualify for entry into the Masters by Research or PhD program.

English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0; TOEFL Paper-based Test - Overall score of 550 with 5 or better in TWE (Test of Written English); TOEFL Internet based (iBT): Overall 64 with 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing, Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE): Overall score of 50 with no communicative skill score less than 50, Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): 169 with no less than 169 in any component, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): 169 with no less than 169 in any component.

Entry into a Bachelor Degree program at La Trobe University requires completion of Australian Year 12 with certain grade. Students from other countries should have country specific requirements equivalent to Australia.
Subject prerequisites
Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English.
