Understanding issues affecting families
If you’re interested in working with families and understanding how various social, environmental and personal issues can affect the family structure, this major could be just for you.
The Child and Family Studies major focus on emotional and behavioral health, and examine issues impacting on families and children within society. You will explore human development through the entire life span and learn about the changing nature of the structure and function of the family in contemporary society. Completing both theory and practical placement will make sure you’re equipped with the skills you need for a career in this field.
The Honours component of this degree involves completing a research project on a topic of choice under the supervision of a staff member. The Honours program can also provide further exposure and industry experience, preparing you for an exciting career in the human services industry.
Career outcomes
You will be equipped to work in the government and public sectors as well as in community and private organizations as a community development worker, counselor, welfare advocate or support worker.

Students must have a recognized previous academic qualification. These qualifications are for standard entry and are based on comparisons with Australian year 12 level examinations. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic only) - 6.0 (or better) (no component lower than 5.5); TOEFL (paper based) - 550 (or better) (with a minimum Test of Written English Score of TWE 4.5); TOEFL (electronic or computer based) - 213 (or better) (with essay rating of at least 4.5); TOEFL (internet based) - 80 (or better) (with 19 minimum in all bands); Pearson (PTE Academic) - 50 (or better) (with no communicative score less than 50); Cambridge English Scale Scores for FCE, CAE and CPE3 - Cambridge English: First (FCE) with a score of 169 or above. No less than 162 in each skill.
