The Bachelor of Environmental Science (Honours) is a four-year program that will teach you how to describe, monitor and predict environmental processes and the effects of human activity on physical and biological environments. Major in one of four different options: Earth Resources, Ecology and Conservation, Environmental Toxicology, or Natural Resource Science. Build your science knowledge in the first three years and apply that knowledge to an independent project in year four. Combine your scientific skills with knowledge of the legal, political and social aspects of environmental management, and undertake extensive practical, field and research experiences to be well equipped for a career in environmental science. You'll be ready to apply the principles of scientific investigation to environmental problem-solving. Earth Resources The Earth Resources major examines the physical environment. As a student in this major, you'll develop important knowledge and skills that will allow you to minimise the effects of extracting minerals, fossil fuels, water and other resources, and understand geological phenomena such as earthquakes, floods and erosion. Ecology and Conservation The Ecology and Conservation major focuses on the relationships between plant and animal species in their natural environments. It considers how environmental change and human activities affect their populations, and which conservation practices best protect biodiversity. Environmental Toxicology In the Environmental Toxicology major you'll identify and quantify problems involving chemical pollutants in soil, air and water, and their effects on human health and the environment. You'll understand the urgency to identify existing and emerging environmental toxins, and how to address the risks and implement regulation. Natural Resource Science The Natural Resource Science major focuses on the physical elements of landscapes (soils, water and vegetation) and the effect of human use on them. As a student in this major, you'll study environmental processes, and how they can be described, monitored and predicted, and devise solutions for a sustainable future.
