Pharmaceutical sciences combine knowledge about the human body, chemistry and the action of drugs in the body and enable the pharmaceutical industry to deliver more reliable, accessible and effective treatments.
In addition to an understanding of pharmacology and physiology you will learn about the development of new drugs, the clinical use of medications, and the legal and regulatory aspects of medicine development within the pharmaceutical industry.
You’ll gain an understanding of biochemistry, biostatistics, human biology and cell biology, and an in-depth knowledge of therapeutics, pharmacology and toxicology, physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology to prepare you for a career in the pharmaceutical industry.
A highlight of this program is that it provides a direct pathway into RMIT’s industry-based Pharmaceutical Sciences Honours year (BH121) for eligible students.
The honours year provides extensive career experience in pharmaceutical and health-related industries.

Pathway options
You are guaranteed entry to the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences from a range of RMIT programs. Successful completion and the grades you achieve determine the amount of credit you will receive.
If you achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 (out of 4.0) in the following programs, you will receive credit as follows:
Associate Degree in Applied Science - you will receive 2 semesters of advanced standing (equivalent to 120 credit points). To be eligible, you must also successfully complete the pre-requisite course ONPS2164 Medicines, Drugs and Poisons as part of your study in the Associate Degree in Applied Science
Diploma of Laboratory Technology (Biotechnology) - you will receive 2 semesters of advanced standing (equivalent to 96 credit points)
Diploma of Laboratory Technology (Pathology Testing) - you will receive 2 semesters of advanced standing (equivalent to 96 credit points)
If you achieve below the minimum GPA, you may still apply. You will be assessed on a case by case basis and credit is not guaranteed.
Alternatively, you can gain entry from RMIT Foundation Studies or a range of vocational study programs.
Further study
When you successfully complete this program you may be eligible for entry to the following programs:
Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Honours)
Bachelor of Health and Biomedical Science (Honours)
Alternatively you may be eligible for entry into other RMIT honours or postgraduate programs.

Applicants must have obtained a score of 25 - 31. Applicants must have completed a recognized equivalent Year 12 studies program to the required standard. English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (no band less than 6.0); TOEFL (Paper Based Test) score of 580 (TWE* 4.5); TOEFL (Internet Based Test – iBT): Overall score 92 with minimum of 20 in all sections; Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE (A)): 58 (no communication band less than 50); Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE): 176 with no less than 169 in any component.
