Combine expertise in the design and manufacture mechanical devices and provide solutions, with the business know-how to succeed in the international market. This program combines the latest in mechatronics technologies, systems engineering and additive manufacturing with international business studies and high-level financial and economic analysis. You'll learn to design, build and operate smart systems in aerospace, automotive, food processing and electronics industries, and oversee the development of large-scale, global manufacturing facilities. With studies in international business you'll be able to perform high-level financial and economic analyses with a global perspective. You’ll have the opportunity to design creative solutions through inspiring and sustainable design-and-build projects, as well as taking part in the Engineers without Borders Challenge - a humanitarian-focused course offered in all RMIT engineering degrees. To ensure you graduate job-ready, you’ll also have an opportunity to undertake a work-integrated learning (industry experience) elective. International student visa holders can only study full-time. Electives and program structure Year 1 You'll study a mix of courses in basic engineering sciences and business principles. All engineering students will also study an Introduction to Engineering course, incorporating humanitarian-focused Engineers without Borders Challenge. You’ll have the opportunity to extend this aspect of your studies by completing Engineers without Borders elective, enabling you to experience humanitarian engineering first-hand. Years 2 and 3 You'll complete courses in areas such as electronics, computing, mechatronics, supply chain and marketing. Year 4 You'll cover some of the details of engineering systems, learn processes and capabilities required to work as an engineering professional, and build management skills for leading large-scale operations. You’ll also complete a work-integrated learning (industry experience) elective in Year 2, 3 or 4. Year 5 Your final-year (capstone) project will develop and reinforce the skills and knowledge you need - as defined by Engineers Australia - to commence your professional engineering career. The project allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of creating new mechatronics systems and applying your business knowledge to explore new markets for your innovation. Multiple campuses Years 1, 2 and 3 are conducted on the City campus and Years 4 and 5 are shared between the City and Bundoora campuses. Career Graduates with engineering and international business skills will advance their careers quickly and may find work in multinational companies as executive’s in supply chain and procurement. Engineering-related roles include project manager, production manager and director of operations. Further study When you successfully complete this program, you may be eligible for entry into an RMIT postgraduate program or RMIT Masters by Research or Doctoral (PhD) program.
