The program provides an introduction to health sciences, exploring both the individual and public view of health in Australia. During the program, you’ll gain a core understanding of human biology, health and nutrition. You’ll learn about psychology, project management, exercise, and law and ethics, with a focus on health and the health industry. Your studies will also cover the Australian healthcare system and the major health issues facing Australia. Electives and program structure Year 1 The first year focuses on understanding the body in health and disease. You'll be introduced to the Australian healthcare system and the role of different health professionals. You'll also explore the role of health promotion and information management in the Australian and international context. Year 2 The second year focuses on health promotion and provides you with knowledge and skills to work with individuals and groups to promote health through education and other strategies. You'll undertake a capstone experience that involves a health industry project and practice that includes a work-integrated learning (WIL) activity. Career You will have the skills and knowledge to work effectively in the health sector, with an understanding of the Australian healthcare system and the major health issues facing Australia. Graduates may find employment in government departments, local governments, community health centres, aged care agencies and health promotion organizations. Pathway options You can gain entry to the Associate Degree in Health Sciences from RMIT Foundation Studies or a range of vocational study programs. Further study When you successfully complete the Associate Degree in Health Sciences you may be eligible for entry into an RMIT undergraduate program.
