The School of Oral and Dental Sciences again performed highly in the Government's most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF2014). We increased our percentage of world-leading (4*) research from 20 per cent to 43 per cent compared with RAE2008, and our percentage of world-leading and internationally excellent (4*and 3*) research from 60 per cent (RAE2008) to 80 per cent (REF2014). The school interfaces laboratory-based and clinically-applied research and fosters a high level of collaboration between staff and students. The research programme is funded by internal and external grants from charities, research councils and industry.
