This programme will appeal to vets with one or two years of clinical experience who want to develop their clinical skills. As well as preparing students for further clinical training, it also aims to develop skills for a primary care setting. The diploma lasts 12 months and encompasses several pathways, including small animal practice, equine practice and clinical pathology; each student will pick one pathway for study. There are two compulsory units for each pathway and each unit carries equal weighting. The goal is for students to consolidate and build on the clinical knowledge and skills gained from their undergraduate study and prior professional practice (eg the RCVS Professional Development Phase) in an area of veterinary medicine. Teaching will be delivered by a combination of directed clinical training, face-to-face presentations and seminars, online resources and self-directed learning. Students will also receive training in evidence-based veterinary medicine. Graduates could go on to study for a Master's by research or taught Master's programme (eg MSc in Clinical Veterinary Science, MVetMed/PhD). Career destinations could include general practice, academia or specialist veterinary practice.
