This flexible diploma is a way for you to take undergraduate law courses if you have already completed an undergraduate law degree from a recognised university.
Programme overview
This diploma is an excellent choice for law graduates from both New Zealand and overseas who wish to further enhance their legal knowledge.
You can focus on an area of specialisation according to your own interests or professional requirements, while updating skills and continuing professional development (it meets the requirements of the New Zealand Law Society's Continuing Professional Development).
Programme structure
120 points
One year (two semesters) full-time but may be completed part-time (over any duration).
Students will be required to complete 120 points of courses from LLB Part II, III and IV, of which at least 75 points must be from LLB Part III and IV.
If a student wishes to enrol in an LLB Part II course, they must satisfy the Grade Point Average required for admission into LLB Part II.
With faculty approval, in lieu of some courses from LLB Parts II, III, or IV, a student may substitute up to 30 points from courses listed in the Master of Laws programme.
It may be required for the student to include LAW 788 (Legal Research Methodology) with other courses from the Master of Laws programme.
With faculty approval, a student may enrol in up to 30 points from suitable courses from Stage II or higher in relevant programmes offered elsewhere in the University.

Applicants must have an appropriate undergraduate degree with a minimum average grade of ‘B’ or higher in the final-year prerequisite courses at a recognised institution. Consult faculty guidelines for the grades required. Other English Language Requirements accepted: overall score of 575 plus Essay (TWE) of 4.5 in Paper-based TOEFL; CAE score of 58 or higher, no individual language skill below borderline; CPE score of 45 or higher; PTE overall score of 65 and no PTE communicative skills score below 58; score of 85 in Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB).

You must have completed a Bachelor of Laws or an undergraduate law degree from a recognised university (or similar institution). Law graduates from both New Zealand and overseas are able to apply.
There is no grade requirement for admission into the Graduate Diploma in Law.
