专业简介
Follow your interests and choose from a wide range of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, cultures and languages.
Enhance your opportunities for careers or postgraduate study through our double major requirement. You can explore different subjects before choosing your two majors. You are free to combine any two majors, to pursue your interests or to meet a career goal.
Benefit from distinctive opportunities to develop skills for many different careers in a fast-changing, globalised economy. You can further extend your skills and knowledge for future employment by choosing to take one or two of our optional Modules.
You will choose two BA subjects as your two majors (your "double major"). You will take eight courses (120 points) in each major. This includes at least three courses (45 points) at Stage III in each major.
In your first year you will probably take eight courses: four in semester one and four in semester two. A typical pattern would be to take two courses in each of three BA subjects, choose one course in a fourth BA subject, and take a General Education course. This gives you an opportunity to explore your interests and discover your strengths.
Towards the end of your first year, you will choose your two majors. In later years you will concentrate on these subjects.
Statistics is the collection, analysis, presentation and organisation of data, allowing us to make predictions for the future based on previously gathered data.
We live in an information age. Computers allow us to collect and store information in quantities that previously would not even have been dreamt of; however, raw, undigested data stored on computers is useless until people can start to make sense of it.
Statistics is the human side of the computer revolution, an information science, the art and science of extracting meaning from seemingly incomprehensible data. Statistics applies to almost any field; this is why some training in statistics can help make you more effective and more employable, regardless of the career direction you choose.
Investigation: asking questions, designing ways to collect data to answer those questions, collecting data, making sense of what the data say to produce sensible answers – this is the subject matter of statistics and a set of general life skills.
Where can Statistics take you?
Statistics is the ideal partner course for people who want to enhance their quantitative capabilities while pursuing their career choice subject. Some training in statistics can help make you more effective in almost any career.
