University of MelbourneBachelor of Biomedicine (Major in Bioengineering Systems)

专业简介

If you can’t choose between operating robots and operating theatres, then the Bioengineering Systems major is for you. Biomedical engineering operates at the intersection between new technologies and understandings of how biological systems work. A fusion of medicine, engineering and science makes it the fastest-growing, and most exciting and challenging discipline in engineering today. You’ll study elements of engineering, science and medicine, and learn to use all three to develop new and improved medical treatments, processes and instruments. University of Melbourne bioengineers are working on groundbreaking innovations like the bionic eye, implants that help control epilepsy and improved ways of delivering life-saving drugs to the body. Follow this major through to the Master of Engineering and imagine what you could do next. Studying a bioengineering major through Science leads directly to a Master of Engineering (Biomedical) or Master of Engineering (Biomedical with Business) and professional registration as an engineer. The central aim of completing this major, followed by a Master of Biomedical Engineering, is to help students become fluent in both the languages of biology and engineering. As a graduate, you will be well placed at the epicentre of this 21st century revolution in medicine and the treatment of disease. You can study this major in the Bachelor of Biomedicine or the Bachelor of Science In this major you’ll study elements of engineering, science and medicine, and learn to use all three to develop new and improved medical treatments, processes and instruments. More specifically gain skills in: mathematical modelling of biological and engineering systems, analytical and abstract thinking, problem-solving and design skills, ability to carry out laboratory experiments to confirm possible solutions to complex problems. You will focus on human systems, the design and operation of devices and processes, and the application of engineering skills to new medical treatments, instruments and machines. Our biomedical engineers and students are working on groundbreaking innovations such as the bionic eye, devices to control epilepsy and more efficient drug delivery systems. Your major structure This major can be completed through the Bachelor of Biomedicine or the Bachelor of Science. BACHELOR OF BIOMEDICINE In your first year you will study 75 points of core subjects (usually six subjects) that most Biomedicine students will take to build an understanding of the structure and function of the body and consideration of the determinants of health and disease, including genetic and environmental influences. You will also undertake breadth studies. In second year you will study 50 points of core subjects made up of two semester long subjects as well as subjects leading to your major and breadth studies. In your third year you will study 25 points (usually two subjects) of Biomedicine core subjects and 50 points (usually four subjects) that is deep and specialised study in bioengineering as well as other elective or breadth studies. Careers outcomes Right at the cutting-edge of imagination and science, complete this major and the Master of Engineering (Biomedical) at Melbourne and you could pursue a career as a biomedical engineer. Biomedical engineers work in hospitals, industry, research and educational institutions. With expert knowledge and insight, biomedical engineers may also pursue communication and management-related roles.
