When you study the Master of Veterinary Studies (Public Health) you will be learning from a world-leading group of researchers and teachers, internationally- recognised for their contribution to progress in the areas of One Health and epidemiology.
You may be in a government position and needing to know more about disease surveillance and/or food safety. Or you may come from a veterinary background and be interested in learning more about animal health and the transmission of pathogen to humans (zoonoses).
In the Master of Veterinary Studies (Veterinary Public Health) you will learn from our world-leading experts how to help create solutions to reduce the impact of animal pathogens on human health, including the prevention and control of food and water borne pathogens.
Focus on food, water and disease
The Master of Veterinary Studies (Veterinary Public Health) is a research-focused qualification. It has a focus on issues around food safety, water quality and zoonotic diseases - issues that have a crossover between animal and human health.
Internationally-relevant research
Massey University is internationally-renowned for its expertise in this area. We have a unique strength in veterinary public health, both in our research experience in epidemiology and in our on-the-ground experience in implementing preventative programmes in Central Asia. You will be able to work with and learn from four groups that are actively working on different aspects of research and training:

Careers
Careers for those with a qualification include community health workers, environmental specialists, health educators and epidemiologists. You may gain a role as a public health advisor in a central or local government role, within a pharmaceutical company or work with other health professionals in providing solutions to public-health related issues.
Many of the students in this qualification are already in employment in a related area and need to upskill in the specifics of public health.
Structure
You shall follow a parts-based course of study, which shall consist of courses totalling at least 180 credits, comprising Part One and Part Two as defined by the Course Schedule.
Progression - A master’s qualification is made up of two parts. The first part gives you good knowledge and skills that will help you with the research part of your qualification. You must pass Part One before you can progress to Part Two.
For progression to Part Two of the Master of Veterinary Studies, a B Grade Average is needed for the Part One courses.

An appropriate undergraduate degree from a recognised tertiary institution is required. English Language Requirements: IELTS - 6.5 (no band less than 6.0); TOEFL iBT- 90 overall (min 20 in Writing); PTE Academic - 58 Overall (min 50 in communicative skills); Cambridge English - 180.

Admission to the Degree of Master of Veterinary Studies requires you to have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science with at least a B grade average, or equivalent.
Students from a country where English is not the first language, must obtain a minimum English Language competency level.
