Our current specific areas of horticulture research expertise include fruit and vegetable innovation, high-value plant products and services, applied plant and horticultural science and seed science and technology.
You will also be able to take advantage of Massey’s expertise across the sciences. We have a wide and relevant group of expertise within the university, from engineering and fundamental sciences like microbiology and biochemistry, to agriculture, environmental management and food technology and innovation.
This means no matter what your research interest you will have access to a broad range of experts to assist you develop your own research project.

As a horticulture student you will have access to our world-leading equipment and facilities such as our controlled environment plant growth facilities, the unique and extensive university orchards and state-of-the-art plant physiology and biology equipment.
Careers
The Master of Science (Horticultural Science) is most suitable if you’d like to move into further research such as a PhD, or work for an organisation such as a crown entity in a research capacity.
Structure
You will follow a parts-based programme of study, which shall consist of courses totalling at least 180 credits, comprising Part One and Part Two as defined by the Courses Schedule.
Requirements
A master’s qualification is made up of two parts. The first part gives you good knowledge and skills that will help you with the research part of your qualification. You must pass Part One before you can progress to Part Two.
For progression to Part Two of the Master of Science, a B Grade Average is needed for the Part One courses.

An appropriate undergraduate degree from a recognised tertiary institution is required. English Language Requirements: IELTS - 6.5 (no band less than 6.0); TOEFL iBT- 90 overall (min 20 in Writing); PTE Academic - 58 Overall (min 50 in communicative skills); Cambridge English - 180.
国际学生入学条件
Admission to the Master of Science (180 or 240 credits) requires you to have
a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Horticultural Science, or close equivalent, with a minimum B average in the majoring 300-level courses; or
will have been awarded or qualified for either the Bachelor of Science with Honours or the Postgraduate Diploma in Science and Technology in Horticultural Science, having achieved a B grade average over the contributing courses.
Admission to the 120 credit Master of Science requires you to have a minimum B average for either of the following:
a Bachelor of Science (Honours) with an endorsement in Horticultural Science; or
a Postgraduate Diploma in Science with an endorsement in Horticultural Science
Students from a country where English is not the first language, must obtain a minimum English Language competency level.
IELTS score of 6.5 (no band less than 6.0)
TOEFL iBT score of 90 overall (min 20 in Writing)
PTE Academic score of 58 Overall (min 50 in communicative skills)
Cambridge English score of 176 overall and all bands 169 or better
