What is it Like? This qualification provides further education for a variety of people, who have already completed a degree, to add an additional subject area to their learning. Planning your programme You need to select courses to the value of 120 credits at 200, 300 or 400-level from the wide range of courses for the Bachelor of Design (Hons). Endorsement available are fashion design, industrial design, photography, spatial design, textile design and visual communication design. Courses for the Graduate Diploma in Design have the following prefixes: 198. Industrial Design 212. Fashion Design 221. Photography 222. Visual Communication Design 223. Textile Design 224. Spatial Design Some courses may have limitations on numbers and some have prerequisites, i.e. courses that must be passed prior to study at the next level. Depending upon your previous study or experience, you may be granted an exemption from prerequisite courses on application. If you are planning to use the Graduate Diploma as preparation for postgraduate study in design you should consult an academic advisor. Graduate Diploma in Design structure The Graduate Diploma in Design consists of advanced degree-level courses worth a total of 120 credits. It must include courses to the value of at least 75 credits at 300-level or above. Students are required to successfully pass 90 credits of core courses selected from Part A and 30 credits of elective courses from Part B. The elective courses can be across 200, 300 or 400 level subject to prerequisites (if any).The qualification will be endorsed with one of the following: Fashion Design, Industrial Design, Photography, Spatial Design, Textile Design, or Visual Communication Design.
