The Bachelor of Nursing programme includes science and social science courses related to health, integrated into nursing knowledge. Clinical learning takes place in many different areas including surgical, emergency, medical, mental health and primary care services.
Careers
Nursing is one of the most rewarding careers, as it is focused on supporting people, families and communities to manage a wide range of health challenges. Nurses are involved in all areas of health care and can choose to specialise in particular areas, such as intensive care, community mental health, aged care, or child and adolescent nursing. They can also become a specialist in particular conditions, such as diabetes, respiratory care or cancer nursing. Nurses can also choose to develop careers in health management, research and teaching.
Many of our Bachelor of Nursing graduates continue with their studies after qualifying as registered nurses by undertaking a master’s degree in nursing. A number of our Master of Nursing graduates have successfully gained registration as nurse practitioners with prescribing rights. We can also offer you a PhD in nursing.

Planning your programme
The Bachelor of Nursing is a 22 course, 360 credit, three year programme involving theory and practice. The degree includes a minimum of 1100 hours of supervised clinical practice, which takes place in a wide variety of settings.
Graduates completing the full programme will be eligible to sit the State Final Examination and apply to the Nursing Council of New Zealand for registration as a nurse.
Enrolled nurses, midwives and graduates from other degrees wishing to achieve registration as a nurse may be admitted with advanced standing.

Applicants must have completed New Zealand secondary school qualification or other equivalent overseas qualification. English Language Requirements: IELTS score of 5.0 (no band less than 5.0). TOEFL iBT score of 61 overall (min 17 in Reading & Writing). PTE Academic score of 36 Overall (min 36 in communicative skills). Cambridge English score of 155.

Students must have successful completion of a qualification equivalent to the New Zealand Year 13 - NCEA Level 3 University Entrance. International students need to check the equivalency of their secondary school qualification by reviewing the Academic Admission Requirements by Country.
You must meet the requirements set down by the Nursing Council of New Zealand for registration as a nurse in New Zealand in terms of good character and fitness to be a nurse.
A current Comprehensive First Aid Certificate is required upon admission (NZQA unit standards 6402, 6401 & 6400).
Health screening requirement
Applicants who have English as a second language must provide with their application evidence of proficiency in the English language in the form of an Academic International English Language Testing System ("IELTS") with a score of at least 6.5 in reading, listening, writing and speaking respectively. Only IELTS is acceptable (must have been sat in the past 3 months)
