Software engineering brings together the disciplines of computer science and information technology. The Massey Bachelor of Information Sciences (Software Engineering) gives you a highly-practical and sought-after qualification.
What is it Like?
Studying software engineering will see you gain knowledge, tools and practical skills to be able to design, construct, test and maintain large software applications.
The software engineering major is a joint one - that means you will learn about both computer science and information technology.
You will focus on learning about:
The design and construction of large software applications
The technical knowledge of computer programming from computer science combined with the design and team skills of information technology.
The Bachelor of Information Sciences is one of the first computing degrees in New Zealand to be accredited by the IT industry. Massey University’s majors in computer science, information technology and software engineering are all endorsed by the Institute of IT professionals, the professional body for those working in the IT industry.
Create real applications, while you study
An exciting part of the joint major is the team project in the third year, when you will work together with other students to create a new application. Note that you can change your major within the degree up until the end of your first year.
Careers
Graduates with the software engineering joint major possess a broad range of skills and practice and are able to move into any one of a wide range of employment opportunities.
The programme will give you the skills to enter the computing profession at the level of software engineer. Later, you may be able to move into management of large software projects, including those in safety critical systems.
You will also have the necessary background to fully participate in software development teams. You will be particularly well-equipped to hold positions in the design and management of large software systems.

Applicants must have completed New Zealand secondary school qualification or other equivalent overseas qualification. English Language Requirements: IELTS score of 5.0 (no band less than 5.0). TOEFL iBT score of 61 overall (min 17 in Reading & Writing). PTE Academic score of 36 Overall (min 36 in communicative skills). Cambridge English score of 155.
国际学生入学条件
Students must have successful completion of a qualification equivalent to the New Zealand Year 13 - NCEA Level 3 University Entrance. International students need to check the equivalency of their secondary school qualification by reviewing the Academic Admission Requirements by Country.
Students from a country where English is not the first language, must obtain a minimum English Language competency level.
IELTS score of 6.0 (no band less than 5.5)
TOEFL iBT score of 80 overall (min 19 in Writing)
PTE Academic score of 50 Overall (min 42 in communicative skills)
Cambridge English score of 169 overall and all bands 162 or better
