This programme provides a broad introduction to media in New Zealand to prepare you for the numerous opportunities that exist in this dynamic industry, or further study. It covers the basics of visual, text and audio storytelling and how they relate to publishing across all platforms; writing; presenting; sound, video and story editing; videography and photography; website content production; radio production; and creative production of trailers and advertising. You'll learn how to create and present content across multiple platforms; interview subjects; write headlines and captions; meet deadlines; work individually and in a team; and produce content for social media channels. As part of the programme you'll benefit from our strong industry links making contacts with a range of media professionals and through presentations from people working in media, including producers, digital media managers, videographers and journalists. Programme structure To complete this Certificate you are required to complete a minimum total of 60 credits. To be a full time student you need to maintain a workload of 120 credits per year. This qualification is designed primarily as an introduction to possible higher-level study as well as the media industry. The industry and the roles within it are changing rapidly so graduates will have the skills required to work in entry level positions in media communications and related fields.
