This research course is clustered around four main areas: family, community and domestic life; consumerism, everyday life and contemporary culture; globalisation, risk and anxiety; urban spaces and cultures. Other important areas of research are in social theory; migration; health; ageing; gender and sexualities. Research students in Sociology have dedicated office space in the Moser Building where the social science research institutes are located. This is the site of a developing community of postgraduate scholars and research staff. Research training and courses to enhance the employability skills of our research students are provided by the Graduate school and students are encouraged to participate in these. The reseach interests are Consumption, domestic life and material culture, Cultural anthropology, Ethnicities, Family, parenting and personal relationships, Globalisation, Health and illness, Media and cultural studies, Migration and mobilities, Risk and anxiety, Social and Cultural theory, Subculture, Urban spaces and Utopianism.
