How can we conceptualise the most important challenges confronting our global communities, devise new and innovative solutions to these challenges, and communicate the solutions effectively? This course has been designed for students who seek to lead in applying their knowledge to these global challenges. You will be able to apply your learning in practical and professional contexts in one of three specialisations: Cultural competence International Relations International Studies Human rights Integral to the course is overseas study part of which can be completed by accessing the Monash Arts Global Immersion Guarantee. The remainder of the overseas component can be completed via a range of study abroad options such as offerings at a Monash international location, one of our many study tours, or by studying at one of our prestigious partner universities. Start of expanded content The course will cultivate a rich understanding of the interplay of local, regional and global forces. It will equip you with sharp analytical abilities and flexible, imaginative and well-informed disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches. These together will enhance your capacity to lead social change. Through studies in leadership, culture and globalisation, you will consider responses to current and emerging global challenges, across a variety of cultures. This knowledge will be strengthened through in-depth studies in your chosen specialisation. Students in the Cultural competence specialisation will deepen their cross-cultural competence by intensive language study choosing from one of eight international important languages: Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Spanish. However, students in the other specialisations are also encouraged to use some of their electives for language study, either as a minor or a full major. There's also the opportunity to take an internship in a professional working environment. The blend of academic and applied learning the course offers will equip you with skills demanded in the rapidly shifting global environment, including the following: creativity, communication, cross-cultural collaboration, critical thinking and teamwork. Along the way you will benefit from accessing the Global Immersion Guarantee – a guaranteed* funded overseas field experience to India, Italy, Indonesia, China or Malaysia. A new benchmark in globally-focused education, you will have the opportunity to spend two weeks studying overseas, with airfares and accommodation all covered as part of the degree. On completion, you'll be deeply informed on current challenges facing the global community and have developed outstanding skills as a leader and communicator. This will place you in an exceptional position to pursue a career in fields such as politics and government, the environmental sector, international development, foreign affairs, international relations, trade, defence or with non-government organisations (NGOs). Extend your studies of leadership, culture and globalisation by focusing on communication across cultural borders. By studying one of eight internationally important languages – Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean or Spanish – you’ll deepen your cross-cultural skills and knowledge. All languages are available for beginners through to those with proficiency. You’ll also study topics such as managing intercultural communication, and the skills you build will enable you to apply your knowledge in real-world contexts. The course develops through two themes, which will provide you with interdisciplinary approaches to addressing the key challenges facing the global community and in-depth expertise in a specialised area of study to enable you to effect change.
