This is a qualifying four-year Law degree, designed to produce lawyers competent in English law but with an international and comparative perspective. You will spend your third year at one of our partner universities in Europe, studying topical subjects in English, exploring differences and similarities to the English legal system. The modules which make up a programme of study are assessed using a variety of different methods, enabling students to demonstrate their capabilities in a range of ways. Typical coursework assignments include laboratory reports, essays, literature reviews, short tests, short and sharply focused critical reports, poster sessions and oral presentations. Formal examinations include short answer questions, essays and data analysis. Multiple choice formats are also employed where appropriate. Students are supported in the production of final year project reports and dissertations. Many of our graduates continue their training in order to enter the legal profession - mostly as solicitors, but a substantial number choose to practise at the Bar. Some are taken on by the large law firms who regularly visit Lancaster recruiting for training contracts. A number of graduates use their degree as a foundation for a career in fields from financial services to industry and the media, while others undertake postgraduate academic work in the UK, Europe and the USA.
