This degree is taught jointly in the Department of European Languages and Culture and the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA). This degree scheme includes a year spent in a French-speaking country, giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the language and culture. Your degree programme gives you a practical working knowledge of French together with the study of the social, political and historical life of France and Francophone countries and includes a year in a French-speaking country. In Theatre, you will develop your understanding and creative abilities through theory and practice, with the option of more subject specific or interdisciplinary studies. Fluency in French is a highly marketable skill and combines well with the communicative and interpersonal skills you gain through Theatre Studies. Theatre at Lancaster ranks highly for its graduate prospects. Many of our graduates find jobs within theatre - as performers, directors, writers, technicians and administrators - and in associated fields, such as journalism, the media, publishing and advertising. Others work within areas concerned with the social applications of theatre and drama, such as teaching, social work, community arts, drama and dance therapy. Some graduates use the managerial and interpersonal skills they develop in jobs like personnel and the Civil Service.
