专业简介
The Spanish major provides students with the skills needed to develop an ability to understand, speak, read and write Spanish. Students are exposed to Spanish as used across the Spanish-speaking world, and a wide variety of sources (including newspapers, magazines, media, cinema, songs and literature) are drawn on. In this way, culture, history, politics and society in the Spanish-speaking world are incorporated into the classes to enhance the language-learning experience. Students also have the opportunity to deepen their understanding and strengthen their language skills through specialist courses in Hispanic Linguistics. Students with existing knowledge of Spanish can begin at a more advanced level, and the exact sequence of courses depends on the level at which the student begins the major.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
communicate proficiently and confidently in Spanish
identify the structure and uses of Spanish
demonstrate an understanding of the cultural and linguistics aspects of Spanish language and societies and their socio-historical context
construct a schema of the connections between the Spanish language and its geographical, social and cultural origins
recognise the importance of intercultural communication.

Applicants must have completed recognized upper secondary or equivalent studies comparable to Australian Year 12, to the required standard. English Language Requirements: Academic IELTS: An overall score of 6.5 with at least 6 in each component of the test; a score of 570 with TWE score of 4.5 in TOEFL (paper based test); A score of 80, with a minimum of 20 in Reading and Writing and 18 in Speaking and Listening in TOEFL (internet based test); Cambridge CAE (Pre and Post): 58 overall with all sub skills at borderline or higher; 176 overall with at least 169 in all sub skills. PTE Academic Overall 64, minimum score of 55 in each section.

A completed Associate Diploma, Associate Degree, AQF Diploma, Diploma, AQF Advanced Diploma, Graduate Certificate or international equivalent; OR
At least one standard full-time year (1.0 FTE) in a single program of degree level study at an Australian higher education institution or international equivalent; OR
An approved tertiary preparation course unless subsequent study is undertaken.
