Overview The Master of Professional Archaeology is a specialist two-year 240-credit point course that prepares you to work in commercial archaeology or progress to a research higher degree. You'll acquire a range of workplace skills in archaeological field techniques, technical analysis, Aboriginal and historical archaeology, heritage management and business skills as well as research skills and practice. You may elect to complete a research thesis. The qualification awarded on graduation is recognized in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 9. Professional recognition Graduates of the Master of Professional Archaeology may be eligible to apply for registration with Aboriginal Victoria as a Heritage Advisor. Professional registration may be subject to additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details. Learning outcomes Graduates of the Master of Professional Archaeology have: Advanced and integrated understanding of cultural heritage management for professional practice, research and/or higher learning Specialist knowledge and skills in field methods, analysis and interpretation in Aboriginal and historic archaeology in Australia Advanced understanding of the application of Aboriginal and historic heritage legislation Skills to work in consultation with communities, organizations and as part of a team Course requirements The Master of Professional Archaeology is a 240 CP course that consists of 75 CP of disciplinary core subjects (ARC5AIT , ARC5PRO , ARC5PRA, ARC5REM ), 30 CPs of research skills subjects (HUS5REM , HUS5ADR ), 45 CPs of Disciplinary Electives, 45 CPs of HUSS Electives and 45 CPs. Students will also be required to complete the not-for-credit subject LTU0AIM at the commencement of your first semester. The subject is designed to enhance your knowledge and awareness of issues concerning academic integrity.
