Overview
Physiotherapists assess and treat patients with temporary or long-term physical injuries, movement disorders or disabilities, aiming to achieve the highest possible degree of recovery, activity, participation and quality of life. Physiotherapists may work independently or as members of healthcare teams. They are active in the prevention of illness and injury and in the promotion of health. They are also involved in clinical research, movement rehabilitation, ergonomics and the management of healthcare organizations. Following a preparatory subject in the summer semester (Jan-Feb), in the first semester you will develop clinical reasoning, assessment and treatment skills in the core areas of cardiorespiratory, musculoskeletal and neurological physiotherapy across a lifespan. This is followed by 18 months of integrated theory and clinical practice subjects, when you will be primarily located in the clinical environment. The clinical practice and theory subjects extend outside official University semester dates. The course fosters small-group learning to master the practical aspects of physiotherapy practice. You will be given the opportunity to assess and treat patients in hospitals and other clinical settings under the supervision of a qualified clinician.
Career outcomes
Physiotherapists are employed in a wide variety of settings, including private practice, general hospitals, rehabilitation centres, community health centres, industrial clinics and specialist centres. Opportunities also exist in physiotherapy education and in research.
Professional recognition
The Master of Physiotherapy Practice is accredited by the Australian Physiotherapy Council. Graduates of the Master of Physiotherapy Practice may be eligible to apply for registration with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia. Professional registration may be subject to additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details.

Applicants must have an Australian Bachelor's degree in any discipline, or approved international equivalent. English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0; TOEFL Paper-based Test - Overall score of 575 with 5 or better in TWE (Test of Written English); TOEFL Internet based (iBT): Overall 79 with 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing, Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE): Overall score of 58 with no communicative skill score less than 50, Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): 176 with no less than 169 in any component, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): 176 with no less than 169 in any component.

Bachelor's degree completed within the past five years with a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 65 percent. Applicants who completed their degree more than 5 years ago may be considered on the basis of postgraduate study and/or relevant work experience. Applicants must also have completed tertiary-level subjects in musculoskeletal anatomy (upper and lower limb, pelvis, spine and thorax, head and neck) and neuroanatomy, physiology (including exercise physiology). Completed tertiary-level subjects in pathophysiology, psychology, pharmacology, evidence-based practice, research methods or statistics, determinants of health, human movement, communication or education are also desirable.
English language requirements
IELTS (Academic) - Overall score of 7.0 with no band less than 7.0; TOEFL Paper based - Overall score of 600 with 6 or better in TWE (Test of Written English); TOEFL Internet based (iBT) - Overall 98 with 24 in Reading, 24 in Listening, 23 in Speaking and 27 in Writing; Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE) - Overall score of 65 with no communicative skill score less than 65; Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 with no less than 185 in any component; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - 185 with no less than 185 in any component.
