Overview
The Master of Communication (Journalism Innovation) is designed to help aspiring and mid-career journalists and communication practitioners develop insights and concrete responses to the contemporary, changing media industry.
The focus is on enhancing journalistic practice whilst developing business, marketing, project management and software design skills essential for the entrepreneurial 21st century media professional. Strong industry links are maintained through the program's extensive work placement scheme, which offers you the chance to spend time in a newsroom.
The degree is an articulated program of study offering choices in a range of cutting edge coursework subjects, as well as research project options that can provide an opportunity to progress to a higher research degree.
The qualification awarded on graduation is recognized in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 9.

Applicants must have an Australian Bachelor's degree in any discipline, or approved international equivalent. English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0; TOEFL Paper-based Test - Overall score of 575 with 5 or better in TWE (Test of Written English); TOEFL Internet based (iBT): Overall 79 with 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing, Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE): Overall score of 58 with no communicative skill score less than 50, Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): 176 with no less than 169 in any component, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): 176 with no less than 169 in any component.

The minimum entry requirement for a Master’s Degree is successful completion of an Australian Bachelor degree (or its equivalent). Prior learning developed through relevant work experience or professional accreditation, where it is deemed to be at least equivalent to that obtained through a Bachelor degree, may be considered. In making an offer to an applicant, the University will give consideration to a range of factors to determine whether an applicant has demonstrated the capacity to work at a Masters level, including academic record, English proficiency, and/or employment experience. The Bachelor degree (or equivalent) must be deemed cognate and marks reflective of the capacity to work at the Masters level to gain entry to a 1.5 year Master degree, otherwise, the applicant will be considered for a 2 year Master degree program, which involves initial entry into a fully upgradeable Diploma entry pathway.

IELTS (Academic) - Overall score of 7.0 with no band less than 6.5; TOEFL Paper based - Overall score of 600 with 6 or better in TWE (Test of Written English); TOEFL Internet based (iBT) - Overall 94 with 19 in Reading, 20 in Listening, 20 in Speaking and 24 in Writing; Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE) - Overall score of 65 with no communicative skill score less than 58; Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 with no less than 176 in any component; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - 185 with no less than 176 in any component.
