Overview
This specialized program provides you with training in the practice of art therapy, which combines art and counselling within a clinical, therapeutic or community context. Art therapy is used for the treatment and healing of developmental, emotional and psychological problems or disorders. It is also used as a wellbeing intervention for groups and communities experiencing distress.
Career outcomes
You will be able to work as a qualified art therapist in clinical settings includes hospitals, community health programs, rehabilitation services, education and psychiatric settings, in aged care, palliative and forensic centres, with people experiencing substance abuse, eating disorders, rehabilitation, and numerous other health care needs.
Professional recognition
The Master of Art Therapy is approved by the Australian and New Zealand Arts Therapy Association (ANZATA).
Graduates of the Master of Art Therapy may apply for professional membership with ANZATA. Membership may be subject to additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details.

Applicants must have an Australian Bachelor's degree in any discipline, or approved international equivalent. English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0; TOEFL Paper-based Test - Overall score of 575 with 5 or better in TWE (Test of Written English); TOEFL Internet based (iBT): Overall 79 with 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing, Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE): Overall score of 58 with no communicative skill score less than 50, Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): 176 with no less than 169 in any component, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): 176 with no less than 169 in any component.

An undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as in fine arts, graphic design, art education, psychology, counselling, social work, occupational therapy or nursing.
At least one year of art therapy, counselling, and/or community work experience (paid or voluntary).
English language requirements
IELTS (Academic) - Overall score of 7.5 with no band less than 7.0; TOEFL Paper based - Overall score of 625 with 6 or better in TWE (Test of Written English); TOEFL Internet based (iBT) - Overall 102 with 24 in Reading, 24 in Listening, 23 in Speaking and 27 in Writing; Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE) - Overall score of 73 with no communicative skill score less than 65; Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 191 with no less than 185 in any component; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - 191 with no less than 185 in any component.
