Overview The Graduate Diploma of Professional Archaeology is a one-year, 120-credit point course that develops skills needed for working in commercial archaeology and heritage management. It offers hands-on training in archaeological survey and excavation techniques, heritage legislation, Aboriginal and historical archaeology and business skills. Many subjects are taught in block mode and off campus. The course may serve as a pathway into the Master’s degree. The qualification awarded on graduation is recognized in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 8. Learning Outcomes Graduates of the Graduate Diploma of Professional Archaeology have: Advanced knowledge and skills for work as a professional archaeologist Broad understanding of the theory and practice of cultural heritage management Specialist knowledge of and skills in field methods, analysis and interpretation in Aboriginal and historic archaeology in Australia Skills to work in consultation with communities, organizations and as part of a team Graduates of the Graduate Diploma of Professional Archaeology apply this knowledge and skills as responsible practitioners in archaeological field research and analysis, in the development of cultural heritage management plans, and in communicating to specialist and non-specialist audiences. Course Requirements The Graduate Diploma of Professional Archaeology is a 120 CP course that consists of at least 30 CP of disciplinary core subjects (From Core Choice List), 30 CPs of research skills subjects (HUS5REM , HUS5ADR ), 15 CPs of Disciplinary Electives, 15 CPs of HUSS Electives and up to 30 CPs. Students will also be required to complete the not-for-credit subjects LTU0AIM. The subject is designed to enhance your knowledge and awareness of issues concerning academic integrity.
